This lesson is designed for 8th Grade music students as a cumulative application of the concepts they have learned so far, assuming two years of experience with basic music theory. Students will be placed in small groups and tasked with creating their own composition, guided by the lesson. As composition is a very freeform and subjective topic, this lesson is designed to promote student freedom and decision making, while still providing objective criteria for assessment.

Completing the assignment wouldn't be possible for anyone not familiar with reading/writing sheet music and the basics of music theory, so if you're not a musician, don't worry about making a composition of your own.
