This course is designed for a third grade class, teaching them about the structure of our government and how the checks and balances are in effect. The objective and GLCES for this course are:
Structure and Functions of Government- Describe the structure of government in the United States and how it functions to serve citizens 3 – C3.0.1 Distinguish between the roles of state and local government. 3 – C3.0.2 Identify goods and services provided by the state government and describe how they are funded (e.g., taxes, fees, fines). 3 – C3.0.3 Identify the three branches of state government in Michigan and the powers of each. 3 – C3.0.4 Explain how state courts function to resolve conflict. 3 – C3.0.5 Describe the purpose of the Michigan Constitution. Technology- 3-5.CC. Communication and Collaboration—By the end of grade 5 each student will: 3-5.CC.1. use digital communication tools (e.g., email, wikis, blogs, IM, chat rooms, video conferencing, Moodle, Blackboard) and online resources for group learning projects 3-5-2.CC.2. identify how different software applications may be used to share similar information, based on the intended audience (e.g., presentations for classmates, newsletters for parents)
