Injustice and Cruelty in the Modern American Novel addresses several social justice issues from a linguistic, philosophical and literary point of view. For this reason, you will find several topics listed below. Please work through all of them as each rubric contributes to the overall learning experience.
In order to address several different social justice issues within this course, there is going to be a mentor text, which is Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give as well as professional book clubs in which students get to discuss an additional reading they have signed themselves up for. However, with this being a reading-intensive course you are required to read approximately 100-150 pages per week.
If you ever find yourself in a position where you are unsure whether or not you have understood an assignment correctly please reach out to me through e-mail (abenner4@emich.edu).
