This lesson is intented for fourth grade, and the subjects that it is geared towards is both math and language arts.

This online experience will teach students what symmetry means and how you can determine wherre lines of symmetry are. Students will look at a quilt and this will start the discussion on symmetry, this is also where some vocabulary comes into play. Students will also look at and determine what shapes and letters have lines of symmetry, and how many lines of symmetry each shpe and letter has. Students will write about their findings.

Goals:

In this lesson I want students to be ale to determine a line of symmetry. They will also be able to explain what symmetry is.

We will be using language when folding objects (vertical, horizontal, etc.), students will understand the meaning of those words when it comes to symmetry.

Students will determine what shapes have symmetry, and how many lines of symmetry.

Students will determine what letters, both upper and lower case, have symmetry, and how many lines of symmetry.

Students should already have knowledge about what shapes are, they should also know what a line is. Students will also have knowledge about how to write a description of their findings on a subject.
