8th grade Statistics/Mathematics Course
Required Materials:
Internet Access, Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and Microsoft Excel (recommended) or Google Sheets
Students will learn about correlations and linear regression. Students will be able to make connections between correlations and linear models. A strong correlation found in bivariate data suggests that a linear model could fit the data. Students will get the chance to predict a linear relationship in professional sports data and test their hypothesis. Using the web, students will find the sports data and then use Microsoft Excel to run linear regression on it. In the NHL, do faceoff wins and time of possession have a linear relationship? This module will give you the tools to find out!
